Mar 17	Mid Lenten Dinner at 7:30 PM

PARISH NOTES:

Lent – During Lent, the Church takes on a solemn appearance. The altar curtain is closed starting from the evening of Poon Paregentan, symbolic of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The faithful are encouraged to use this period leading to Easter as a time of prayer and meditation to strengthen their faith.

Arevakali Jamerkoutioun – During Lent we will have Arevakali Jamerkoutioun before the Sunday Badarak at 10 AM. By virtue of its message, the Sunrise Service (Vespers) is performed during Lent, the message being Jesus, the Light to the World, versus the sinful darkness of the World.

Stations of the Cross – Before the Stations at 6:30 PM, we will have Khaghaghagan Jamerkoutioun. The Peace Vespers is addressed primarily to God the Holy Spirit. It is also addressed to God the Son who descended into Hell and brought peace to the souls that were captive. Like the Sunrise Vespers, it is performed only during Lent and takes place in the evening.

It has been a Catholic tradition through the centuries to meditate on the Way of the Cross so that it becomes our way of life. Here at St. Mark’s the stations are prayed every Friday during Lent at 7 PM, followed by the Veneration of the Cross. Everyone is invited to participate

Collection for Armenia – will be taken up today for the assistance of the poor in Armenia. Your generosity and kindness will be very much appreciated.

Luncheon – Our thanks to all who helped to put together last week’s luncheon. The Wedding Anniversary was well received and the start of a new tradition at St. Marks.

2011 Contributions Statements – have been mailed out to the parish. If you do not receive a statement and you should, please notify Father Mikael. All parishioners are urged to use their envelopes, which are mailed to them. If you do not receive envelopes on a monthly basis, please see Patrick. It is to our benefit and is a good audit procedure for the parish office for you to use your envelopes.

Sacred Heart of Jesus – Jesus has promised a special gift for those who are devoted to his Sacred Heart, including his promise that the person will not face death unprepared and will have the chance to confess and have Jesus in his heart, at that time. His requested devotion with the essential prayers and acts, including the “First Friday” and Nine consecutive months promises, with the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion and along with Badarak is offered on every first Friday of the month, the next 1st Friday will be Mar 2 at 6:30 PM.

Maintenance Fund – The monthly donation for the Maintenance Fund is $20.00. The Fund covers the major maintenance items. If you have any questions on the amount you owe, please contact the office. In addition, as always, thank you for your support.

Koffee Klutch – Is your family celebrating a special occasion, birthday, anniversary, retirement, etc. , why not share this happy occasion with your church family by hosting the Coffee Hour following Badarak on Sunday morning?

ARMENIAN SISTERS ACADEMY – Will hold their spring Open House, Thursday, March 15th 9:30 – 11:00 AM. This is an opportunity to educate interested families and enroll students for next September.

Parish Outreach – There is nothing worse than an empty belly. There is nothing more senseless in this land of plenty than hunger. Please help our parish provide for those less fortunate. The list is simple. The need is great. The third Sunday of each month is designated as Can Sunday. Please help by bringing a donation next Sunday.
