“Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.” ~Exodus 20:8

Attendance for last Sunday – 116 Attendance Last year – 52

Coming Events

Mar 13 Parish Council meeting 7 PM

Mar 17 Mid Lenten Dinner at 7:30 PM

PARISH NOTES:

Lent – During Lent, the Church takes on a solemn appearance. The altar curtain is closed starting from the evening of Poon Paregentan, symbolic of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. The faithful are encouraged to use this period leading to Easter as a time of prayer and meditation to strengthen their faith.

Arevakali Jamerkoutioun – During Lent we will have Arevakali Jamerkoutioun before the Sunday Badarak at 10 AM. By virtue of its message, the Sunrise Service (Vespers) is performed during Lent, the message being Jesus, the Light to the World, versus the sinful darkness of the World.

Stations of the Cross – Before the Stations at 6:30 PM, we will have Khaghaghagan Jamerkoutioun. The Peace Vespers is addressed primarily to God the Holy Spirit. It is also addressed to God the Son who descended into Hell and brought peace to the souls that were captive. Like the Sunrise Vespers, it is performed only during Lent and takes place in the evening.

It has been a Catholic tradition through the centuries to meditate on the Way of the Cross so that it becomes our way of life. Here at St. Mark’s the stations are prayed every Friday during Lent at 7 PM, followed by the Veneration of the Cross. Everyone is invited to participate

Collection for Armenia – will be taken up today for the assistance of the poor in Armenia. Your generosity and kindness will be very much appreciated.

Luncheon – Our thanks to all who helped to put together last week’s luncheon. The Wedding Anniversary was well received and the start of a new tradition at St. Marks.

2011 Contributions Statements – have been mailed out to the parish. If you do not receive a statement and you should, please notify Father Mikael. It is to our benefit and is a good audit procedure for the parish office for you to use your envelopes.
